When disaster strikes, having a plan can make a big difference. At AnewVista Community Services, we want you to be ready for anything, and that includes protecting your important online stuff.
Why Digital Preparedness Matters
We use our phones and computers for almost everything these days: keeping track of important papers, saving precious photos, and staying in touch with friends and family. In an emergency, being able to get to these things online is crucial. You might need them to talk to people, find help, or even prove who you are.
Simple Steps to Get Ready
Back Up Your Stuff: Make copies of your important files, photos, and papers on a separate hard drive or online storage service. That way, even if something happens to your computer, you won't lose everything.
Make a List of Your Most Important Accounts: Write down all your online accounts, including your usernames, passwords, and any security questions. Keep this list in a safe place, like a password app or a fireproof box.
Have a Plan to Stay in Touch: Make sure you have different ways to talk to your loved ones if something happens. You can use text messages, social media, or even agree on a person to call who lives far away. Write down and store in a safe place key contacts information.
Protect Your Devices: Use strong passwords or fingerprints to lock your phone and computer. You can also use a tracking app in case your phone gets lost or stolen.
Pack a "Go Bag" for Your Tech: Put together a small bag with things like a portable charger, extra cords, and a USB drive with copies of important papers.
Keep a Vital Information Form: Maintain a form like ANVCS.org’s LifeNet form that documents your key contact information, key medication, contact information, pet information… ANVCS.org’s lifenet form can be found here:
