A Simple Guide to Casting for Seniors
Have you ever tried to show a family photo or a YouTube video to a friend on your phone, only to realize you’re both squinting at a tiny screen? At AnewVista Community Services (ANVCS), we believe technology should work for you, not against your eyesight!
Casting or Mirroring allows you to send what you see on your phone or tablet directly to your television. It’s perfect for viewing vacation photos, attending a virtual wellness class, or watching our tech tutorials on a larger display.
How to Cast or Mirror from iPhone to TV (AirPlay)
Apple uses a feature called AirPlay. To use this, you’ll need a Smart TV that supports AirPlay or an Apple TV box connected to your television.

Easy Steps for iPhone & iPad:
Check Your Wi-Fi: Ensure your iPhone and your TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Open the Control Center: * On newer models, swipe down from the top-right corner.
On older models, swipe up from the bottom edge.
Tap Screen Mirroring: Look for the icon that looks like two overlapping rectangles.
Select Your TV: A list will appear. Tap the name of your television.
Enter the Code: If a four-digit code appears on your TV screen, type it into your phone.
Pro Tip: To stop sharing, go back to the Control Center, tap the Mirroring icon, and select "Stop Mirroring."
How to Connect Android Phone to TV (Google Cast)
Most Android phones use Google Cast or Smart View. This works with Chromecast devices or "Smart TVs" with Android software built-in.
Easy Steps for Android:
Check Your Wi-Fi: Just like Apple, both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Access Quick Settings: Swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers.
Find the Cast Icon: Look for an icon labeled "Cast," "Screen Cast," or "Smart View." * Note: You may need to swipe left to see more icons.

Select Your Device: Tap the name of your TV or Chromecast.
Start Now: If a privacy warning pops up, simply tap "Start Now."
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
Don't let a "connection error" frustrate you! If the devices aren't talking to each other, try these quick fixes:
Restart both devices: Turn your phone and your TV off and back on.
Update Software: Ensure your phone’s software is up to date in the settings menu.
The "Same Network" Rule: Sometimes phones "jump" to a neighbor's Wi-Fi or a guest network by mistake. Double-check your Wi-Fi name in settings.
