A screenshot is a picture of what's on your screen. It's handy for showing a family member an error message, saving a recipe, or keeping a copy of a confirmation page.

On a Windows Computer: Take It, Then Paste the Screenshot

  1. Press three keys together: the Windows key, Shift, and the letter S.

  2. Your screen will dim and a small toolbar will appear at the top.

  3. Click and drag your mouse over the part of the screen you want to capture. Let go when you're done.

  4. The picture is now saved on your computer's "clipboard," which is a temporary holding spot. You won't see it yet, and that's normal.

  5. Open where you want the picture to go, such as an email, a Word document, or a chat.

  6. Press Ctrl and V together to paste. Your screenshot appears.

Practice Makes Perfect

Try it a few times on something simple, like the weather page. After two or three tries, it will feel natural.
